Fun Word Friday: Opsimath is a wonderfully encouraging word for a person who begins learning or studying something later in life.
It comes from the Greek opsimathฤs, meaning roughly โlate learner.โ Rather than suggesting that someone is too old to learn, opsimath celebrates the idea that learning has no expiration date.
For example: โShe became an opsimath when she decided to study painting at sixty.โ
An opsimath might learn a new language, pick up an instrument, return to school, explore photography, study history, or simply develop a new curiosity later in life.
Thereโs something especially lovely about the word because it carries the idea that youโre never too old to be curious, start over, discover something new, or follow an interest that has been waiting for you.
